Get involved.

My project is evolving. I am pleased to announce that my abstract "Indie music milieu: London in the 80s squatters network", submitted for the Subcultures Network International Conference, was accepted in March 2023. This is good news for me as it is my first move away from Technology Enhanced Learning research; a field I have been active in for over 33⅓ years! Of course I am putting to good use my research skills and a theoretical lens developed through collaboration as those Long Play years spun on life's turn-table. I am planning to expand on this new research line. Things should get interesting as I start to (or try to) interview some of the main Indie Music characters in the London in the 80s squatter and housing coop network. I will doubtless expand the mapping of the network based on the links that I find. I am interested in joining up with research collaborators in this area. Being in a band or a research team is the best ...

As I say, I plan to follow up on those links between the squats and the housing co-ops. I'm using that as a kind of a route map, i.e. the small network I talk about in the Subcultures paper. A colleague, who’s a Professor of Technology Enhanced Learning, said, "Well, why don't you look at wider set of networks?" He mentioned the Crass squat in Westbourne Park. However, so far I can't find a link between my network and Westbourne Park. At least I've mapped out the basecamp. And, there is now a link to Devonshire Road squats in Liverpool from the Carolyn Cross interview (forthcoming).
