Above taken by Bill, at Glencar Waterfall, Co. Sligo, me with a waterfall flowing into my head and all 😀 The acorns never fall far from the tree 🌳
On Friday 17th November 2023 Billy Magerison (his Instagram post on this trip), The Son, and himself travelled to the country of our ancestors. Turns out my DNA is 50% Irish. For example, on Gran Lilly's side my Great Great Great Grandad Thomas Harrison lived in Sligo (b. 1811) and married my G G G Grandma Bridget Horgan also Sligo (b 1826). We stayed in Sligo for 4 nights but got about. W. B. Yeats grew up there and so his poems were packed. They even have a jazz festival and summer school in July. Billy's old school mate Dan goes cold water surfing around here.
Before I get into the detail over the next few posts, i.e. in the upcoming photo stories, here is a video of Sligo & our visits to parts of the beautiful Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland (88 seconds). There is a very aquatic theme!
- The Garavogue River, Sligo, possibly the shortest river in Ireland!
- Dunes @ Streedagh Point with Benbulben backdrop
- Billy swims @ Rosses Point
- Glencar Waterfall

And here is a map that our AirB&B host Dympna annotated for us on arrival in Sligo (I added to it). Over the coming posts I will tell you about Bill and John's excellent adventures on the Wild Atlantic Way!
