Part 5, Portfolio #3.1, Tim’s Story

21st August 2022. I had my tripod set up and was out taking photos at Sharpness; an English port in Gloucestershire, one of the most inland in Britain, and which is on the beautiful Severn Estuary 20 minutes drive from where I live. Tim came up and asked me what I was photoing. Anyway, as our chat went on I mentioned I was a Gamekeeper's son. Turns out Tim was a Gamekeeper for over 40 years, although often he had other jobs at the same time. "You are only as good as your last season" he replied when I said we had to move around a lot! He let me take a picture of him with his dogs (the featured photo above). He then told me this excellent story about his Great Grandad from Essex, who was a very tall chap, and who was in fact a poacher! Tim had done research on the Internet and found a picture of him, which he showed me on his mobile phone (*). It seems that his Great Grandad got arrested for his activities: carrying a Snipe (a type of bird) and firearms, and got charged with not having a Game Licence. Great story 🙂
